On behalf of the Russian Bioenergetics Group we would like to invite you to participate in the 14 th European Bioenergetics Conference (EBEC). This event will be held in Moscow , the capital city of Russia .
The scientific program will seek to address the main areas of interest and current research within the field of fundamental and applied bioenergetics extending the traditional topics to related areas of cell biology, including physiological, pathological and environmental aspects. It will provide a forum for the free exchange of ideas and information.
Moreover, “Perspectives of bioenergetics” will be discussed at a round table. “Colloquia suggested by participants” and poster sessions will be included in the program. Some time will be reserved for informal discussions.

Genetic Analysis: Model Organisms to Human Biology San Diego, California January 5 - January 7, 2006
The goal of this meeting is to emphasize the value of model organisms in understanding biology. Genomic studies have firmly established that all organisms are built from the same set of genes, underscoring the importance of model organisms for understanding gene function. The meeting has been designed to highlight both human and model organism genetics in a complementary way.
Meeting Deadlines: Abstract Submission: November 14, 2005 Meeting Registration: December 1, 2005 Housing Reservation: December 1, 2005

ORGANIZING COMMITTEE Pr. Sergey B. SEREDENIN, Dr. Konstantin V. ANOKHIN, Dr. Pavel BALABAN (Moscow, RU), Pr. Nina K. POPOVA (Novosibirsk, RU), Pr. Byron C. JONES (State College, PA, USA), Dr. Pierre MORMEDE (Bordeaux, FR).
GENERAL PRESENTATION Individual differences in the structure and/or expression of myriad genes can influence, although rarely determine absolutely, individual differences in behaviour. Conversely, engaging in behaviour affects expression in many genetic pathways. The recent explosion of interest among scientists and laymen in understanding the role of genes in complex behaviours has been fuelled by the development of new, powerful molecular biological techniques and facilitated by the enormous efforts associated with the Human Genome Project. The development of the new molecular capabilities for studying gene function (e.g., the rapid proliferation of transgenic overexpression, underexpression, and null mutants, or knockouts) has not been accompanied by a parallel increase in the understanding of how to address behaviour genetic questions experimentally. The goal of the summer school is to enhance the sophistication of the neuroscience and molecular biological communities in marrying behavioural and genetic questions. During the summer school, graduate and post-graduate students receive intensive instruction in population genetics, human genetics, use of genetic animal models, and their application to explore individual differences in behaviour. Topics considered include research with flies, worms, mice, rats, and humans, including pharmacogenetics, psychiatric genetics and genetics of neurological degenerative disorders. The core program is broadly defined by the content of the book Neurobehavioral Genetics. Methods and Applications (Byron C. Jones and Pierre Mormède, editors). The book is distributed free of charge to all participants. Students are encouraged to present and discuss with faculty members their own work in a poster session.

Registration is Open for the ESF Training Course: Membrane Proteins: the rocky road from gene to crystal
to be held at ITQB, Oeiras, Portugal
19-24 September, 2005
Deadline for Registration: 15 June 2005
Organised by Professor So Iwata (IC London, UK) and Margarida Archer (ITQB, Oeiras, Portugal)
Membrane proteins present a great challenge to structural biology. Knowing their structures is essential to understanding relevant biological systems. The sequence of topics covered by the course will follow roughly the “rocky road” to go from the gene to the crystal of membrane proteins, which are still two major bottlenecks in their structural characterization. It will include lectures in the morning and tutorials/practical sessions in the afternoon.
This course is intented mainly for PhD students or post-docs with special interest in membrane proteins. Around 25 participants will be accepted.
The conference program will feature Symposia, Award Lectures, Satellite Meetings, concurrent sessions, poster presentations and State of the Art workshops. Program highlights will include:
HPV Testing in screening programs HPV vaccines Cervical cancer management in developing countries In-vivo Imaging and In-vivo cytology Impact of Genomics and Proteomics on Diagnostic Cytology and Screening Programs Automation in Cytology – current status Molecular Profiles of Pre-Cancer and Early Cancer Hot topics in diagnostic cytology Predictive Oncology and Personalised Targeted Therapies – Is Cytology combined with Genomics an Enabling Platform?
