Семейство Злаки (Gramineae)

Многолетний дерновинный злак с тонкими прямостоячими стеблями, достигающий в высоту 10-50 см. Стебель с 1-3 узлами, гладкий, неразветвленный. Язычок 1-5 мм в длину. Листовые влагалища в месте перехода в листовую пластинку с бородкой волосков. Листовые пластинки длинно-заостренные, до 5 мм в ширину и 15 см в длину, плоские, от голых до рассеянно-волосистых.
Колоски собраны в сравнительно густые, продолговато-яйцевидные зеленые или пурпурные колосья, достигающие 1-10 см в длину и до 15 мм в диаметре. Отдельные колоски до 10 мм в длину. Цветковая чешуя с хорошо заметной остью.
При растирании растение издает слабый приятный запах, обусловленный наличием кумаринов и особенно выраженный у растений в сухом состоянии.
Обычный вид, широко распространенный в Европе. Растет на лугах, в светлых лиственных лесах. Используется в пищевой промышленности для придания аромата напиткам.
